FPS drops with the software
What to do if your FPS drops after launching the software: how much of a hit is normal, what affects performance the most, and how to benchmark the problem correctly before contacting support.
Some FPS cost is normalโ
Any software running on top of the game (drawing visuals, processing game state, running automatic scripts) uses up some resources. A drop of about 15% is normal and expected. Software simply cannot be completely "free" in terms of performance.
For example, if you had ~200 FPS without the software and ~170 with it, that is within the normal range โ nothing to worry about.
What affects FPS the most in Dota 2โ
Two features account for most of the load:
Camera zoomโ
The further the camera is zoomed out, the more heroes, units, effects and map objects are drawn on screen at once โ which means more load on the GPU and lower FPS. This is the single heaviest setting for performance.
If you need maximum FPS, reduce the camera zoom or return it to the default value. See Camera.
Humanizerโ
The Humanizer handles automatic actions and is also responsible for camera zoom โ its work consumes resources too.
Disabling the Humanizer is safe: you simply lose the automatic scripts (hero combos, automatic last-hitting) and camera zoom, but all visual features remain. See Settings โ Humanizer.
How to reduce FPS dropsโ
- Reduce the camera zoom or return it to the default value.
- Disable the Humanizer if you don't currently need automatic scripts or camera zoom.
- Turn off unnecessary visuals โ the fewer elements drawn at once (ESP, panels, radiuses, etc.), the higher your FPS.
- In Dota 2, use Dota 2 Minify โ a set of mods that simplify and remove visual and sound effects for the sake of performance.
- Close unnecessary background programs (browser, streaming, overlays, etc.).
If the FPS cost is abnormally highโ
If you believe the software is eating noticeably more than normal (significantly more than ~15%), or there is another performance problem, record benchmarks and send them to support โ we will review your case.
How to record the benchmarksโ
- Download and install CapFrameX โ a free tool for measuring FPS and frame times.
- Record a full match from start to finish without the software.
- Record a full match from start to finish with the software.
- Save both captures.
Where to send themโ
Send both captures (the full match without the software and the full match with it) to support โ we will review them and help you figure it out.
