Where to find it in the menuโ€‹

Main โ†’ Camera [โ†’ Camera Angles / Mouse wheel]

How to enableโ€‹

  1. Turn on the Humanizer: the camera works only through it. By default it is held off by the "Server anti-cheat" part of Safe mode; while that part is on, the Camera page is locked. While the humanizer is off, the note "Needs the humanizer" is shown at the top of the page.
  2. Menu (Insert) โ†’ Main โ†’ Camera โ†’ set Camera Distance.
  3. To change the distance with the mouse wheel, turn on the header toggle of the Mouse wheel section (off by default). By default the wheel works only while Ctrl is held.

What it doesโ€‹

  • Camera Distance sets how far the camera is from the ground. 1200 is the standard Dota distance, the maximum is 3500. Distant objects are then rendered across the whole visible area.
  • If the camera is zoomed out (distance other than 1200) and the distance fog is on, a "Distance fog is on" note appears under the slider: zoomed out, the far part of the map fades into the fog. Its Turn off button turns the haze off (sets Look = "Off" in Main โ†’ Atmosphere โ†’ Distance fog). The note is not shown while the humanizer is off.
  • While the humanizer is on, the standard Dota mouse-wheel zoom is disabled โ€” the script controls the distance.
  • The camera changes distance smoothly, not in a jump. The transition speed is set by Camera Step and Animation speed.
  • Camera Angles: "Position: X" โ€” pitch (standard 60), "Position: Y" โ€” rotation around the vertical axis (standard 0). Inverse for Dire turns the camera 180ยฐ when you play for Dire.
  • Mouse wheel: wheel up zooms the camera in, wheel down zooms it out, by the Camera Step amount. While you are typing in chat, the wheel does not touch the camera. The new distance is saved in the settings.
  • Draw camera distance: when the distance changes, when your hero spawns and when the humanizer is turned on, the text "Camera distance: N" appears at the top center of the screen for 2 seconds.
  • All of this works only in a match (from the pre-game stage until the end of the game).
  • If the humanizer is off, the camera distance and angle stay standard regardless of the settings.

FAQโ€‹

The camera doesn't zoom out / the "Camera" page is greyed out. The Humanizer must be on. Turn off the "Server anti-cheat" part of Safe mode and turn on Settings โ†’ Humanizer.

The mouse wheel doesn't change the distance. Turn on the Mouse wheel section (header toggle) and scroll the wheel while holding Ctrl โ€” or turn off Change if Ctrl is down.

After turning on the humanizer, the standard mouse-wheel zoom stopped working. While the humanizer is on, the distance is controlled by the Camera page. Change it with the Camera Distance slider or with the mouse wheel through the Mouse wheel section.

With a zoomed-out camera, the edges of the map are in a grey haze. That is the distance fog. Click Turn off in the "Distance fog is on" note under Camera Distance, or set Look = "Off" in Main โ†’ Atmosphere โ†’ Distance fog.

How do I get the normal camera back? Set Camera Distance to 1200, Position: X to 60 and Position: Y to 0 (or right-click the row โ†’ reset to default).
